On September 20, Studio Classroom and Heavenly Melody jointly hosted a memorial concert for Dr. Doris Brougham, who passed away on August 6 at the age of ninety-eight. It was Brougham’s wish to have a joyful service, as she said it was a joyous occasion to go to Heaven to meet Jesus and be reunited with her parents and siblings. Nearly 4000 people attended the concert, including former President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, former Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, KMT Secretary General Huang Chien-ting. The concert included a shortened version of Brougham’s musical The Journey of Love, Heavenly Melody songs sung by a combination of former and present choir members, short skits featuring the three magazines Brougham founded, and video clips of Brougham through the years. Vice President Hsiao presented a presidential commendation for Brougham on behalf of President Lai Ching-te, Former President Tsai gave a heartfelt speech thanking Brougham’s contributions to Taiwan, and Former President Ma Ying-jeou shared a video on Brougham’s passing. The concert concluded with a short message by Rev. Andrew Kou, encouraging everyone to make sure they have obtained their passport for Heaven, which was Brougham’s greatest hope, and included a gift of a Gospel tract written by Brougham herself. Many left the concert in tears, deeply moved by Brougham’s life of sacrifice and service.
