Building
Bridges Through English Education
ORTV uses
English teaching to build relationships
with Chinese people living in
Taiwan and China. In Asia, English
language skills are desperately
needed to compete in the global
market. Forty years ago, ORTV
founder Doris Brougham answered
that need by launching the first
edition of Studio Classroom,
a unique English teaching radio
program with accompanying lesson
sheets. Studio Classroom's
varied lesson topics and interesting
format helped the program become
a popular English learning tool
for students of all ages.
In the
years since its introduction,
Studio Classroom has
grown tremendously. The programs
have expanded into three different
language levels: Let's Talk
in English, Studio Classroom
and Advanced. Lesson
sheets have evolved into colorful
monthly magazines, and radio programs
have branched out into other media
areas, including television and
the Internet. The materials have
won numerous awards, and have
been often praised by Taiwan's
leaders.

Today, Studio Classroom
is the most popular English teaching
magazine in Taiwan, evidence of
God's hand in the outreach ministries
of ORTV. By using English education,
ORTV is able to build close relationships
with Chinese people and help fund
its other ministry outlets.
