World Vision Taiwan's 30 Hour Famine

Taiwan joined over one million young people in over 20 countries for the16th annual 30 Hour Famine Campaign held by World Vision to help raise money for starving children. Fasting for 30 hours, participants experience the gnaw of hunger. Doris and Heavenly Melody were invited join this special event that was held in a stadium in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, on August 13 and 14.

The program had to be changed last minute because of torrential typhoon rains. Wearing yellow trash bags raincoats, the 12,000 participants fled inside the stadium to get shelter from the rain. Heavenly Melody began singing in a room, but moved to the corridor of the stage. Using microphones, they were heard by the participants. The rain unexpectedly stopped while they were singing, so Heavenly Melody moved to the stage. The choir encouraged the audience love others and they introduced them to God, the creator and father of love.

Singer Mei Wang comments, ¡§It was a very special experience. There were a lot of unexpected surprises, like the heavy rainfall. However, in the midst of all of this, we saw God¡¦s sovereignty. It was a miracle that the rain stopped! We live in a society where many have lost hope. News in the media is often negative and many people are influenced. But, during the 30 Hour Famine, we were encouraged to see that there are still many loving, positive people out there who want to make a difference. May the seeds of the Gospel that were planted take root and grow.¡¨

The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement sponsored by World Vision to help raise money for starving children. Funds from the 30 Hour Famine are currently used to help tsunami relief in southeast Asia, Sudan refugees, and famine-stricken Kenya.
